Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Lucas Hooper ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Astra mobile application ("Astra" or the "App").

1. Information we collect

• Account information: Email address and profile details when you create an account.
• Reading data: Books you import, reading progress, highlights, bookmarks, notes, quiz results, and usage statistics.
• AI interaction data: Questions you ask and book excerpts included with Ask Astra, briefs, or quizzes — limited to content needed to generate a response.
• Purchase information: Subscription status processed by Apple and RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
• Device & diagnostics: Basic device information and crash/diagnostic logs needed to maintain app performance.

2. How we use information

• Provide and sync your library, reading progress, and highlights across devices.
• Power Ask Astra, chapter briefs, and quizzes grounded in your books.
• Process subscriptions and restore purchases.
• Improve reliability, security, and product experience.
• Respond to support requests.

3. Third-party services

We use trusted processors to operate Astra, including:

• Apple App Store / Apple ID: App distribution and subscription billing. On-device speech recognition and text-to-speech use Apple system APIs and are not sent to Astra servers.
• RevenueCat: Subscription and entitlement management.
• Supabase: Authentication, profiles, and optional cloud sync for library data.
• Groq, Inc. (Groq Cloud): Hosts and runs the AI model used by Ask Astra, briefs, and quizzes. The model identifier is openai/gpt-oss-120b, an open-weight model served on Groq's inference API. Astra does not ship or run that model inside the app binary. When you use those features, the prompt (your question plus relevant book text) is sent to Groq so it can return generated text. Astra does not sell this content and does not use it to train our own models.

These providers process data according to their own privacy policies and our instructions where applicable.

4. Data retention

We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the App. You can permanently delete your account in the App: open Library, tap your profile/settings, then Account → Delete Account. That removes your Auth user, associated cloud records, and on-device account data. Apple-billed subscriptions must be cancelled separately in Apple ID settings.

5. Your choices

• Delete your account and associated data from Settings → Account → Delete Account in the App.
• Manage subscriptions through Apple ID settings.
• Control microphone/speech permissions in iOS Settings if using voice input.

6. Children

Astra is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. International users

If you use Astra from outside your home country, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date.
